Patrol: Speed, marijuana factors in triple fatal crash

NEWARK — The driver in a crash that killed three Johnstown-area teens in June was going at least 20 mph over the speed limit and was under the influence of marijuana at the time of the crash, according to officials.

Ohio Highway Patrol Lt. Kevin Miller said a reconstruction of the crash estimated Jaylynn Rigio, 16, was driving between 76 and 82 mph June 26 on Hardscrabble Road.

Rigio lost control of the silver Mitsubishi sedan he was driving and crashed into a tree. The vehicle split in two after hitting the tree, killing the three backseat passengers: 17-year-old Michael Hoskinson, 15-year-old Cheyenne Spurgeon and 15-year-old Linzie Bell.
