North America, has created BIG MARIJUANA. In order to get votes or legislative approval, the industry needed to convince the public that marijuana is relatively harmless or at least safer than alcohol. An addiction-for-profit industry, the cannabis industry markets to children, pursues life-long customers and chases profits, following the worst traits of the tobacco, opioid and alcohol industries. In some parts of the country, a culture has been created that makes getting high-potency marijuana as easy as getting a candy bar or chips.
Advocates tell us over and over, “No one ever died from marijuana.” We wish it were true. We know all too well that this statement is false. While marijuana does not cause death in the same way as other drugs, the data is proving that this drug can be fatal, especially for our youth and young adults whose under-developed brains are negatively impacted by today’s high-potency products.
Presented here are the painful stories told by family members who lost their loved ones due to the legalization, normalization and commercialization of marijuana. You will also read stories about some that have survived their experiences but not without long-term, residual negative effects, including emotional trauma, financial ruin, and fractured relationships.
The cases included here are just the tip of the iceberg. Similar tragedies have occured throughout the country. Some of the stories will make you cry; some will make you angry. That is not our goal. Our goal is to educate and to help you make informed decisions.
Many of those who contributed to this project are tireless advocates who speak out against marijuana with great courage. By speaking up and sharing these stories, their loved ones will not have died in vain. The greatest hope is that no other family will have to endure what these families have.
