Cannabis retailers’ marketing practices and compliance with state regulations: a 2025 point-of-sale audit in 5 U.S. cities

As of February 2026, 40 states and DC have legalized medical cannabis, and 24 states and DC authorized comprehensive nonmedical (‘recreational’) cannabis programs, most of which allow retail/sales (National Conference, 2026, Temple University Center for Public Health Law Research., 2026).
