Court documents: Man arrested in fatal I-5 Lakewood crash smoked pot, took Xanax

TACOMA,Wash. — The 23-year-old man arrested in an Interstate 5 crash in Lakewood that killed three people smoked marijuana and took the anti-anxiety drug Xanax in the hours before the fatalities and was looking at his phone just before the incident, court documents say.

Court documents say the man, identified as Montrell Red, routinely uses both drugs often throughout a normal day to stay high.

Red was charged Friday withthree counts of vehicular homicide and failure to remain at an injury accident.

Troopers say an impaired driver was swerving across multiple southbound lanes of I-5 near Lakewood around 2:15 a.m. Thursday when they struck another vehicle.
