NYPD detective killed in Sprain Brook Parkway crash with wrong-way driver who had marijuana in car and may have been drinking: police sources

She drove by the scene of a fatal wreck unaware that her NYPD detective husband — about 10 months shy of retirement — died there hours earlier.

Rechelle Duncan, with her 13-year-old daughter in tow, was headed to the city Friday morning to drop the girl off at school. She took the route they always took from their Westchester home — down the Sprain Brook Parkway.

Just before 7 a.m., she was stuck in traffic as cops investigated the Greenburgh crash that killed Detective Paul Duncan. Police say it was caused by a 20-year-old driver going the wrong way. “It took us two hours to get to school in the city,” the widow recalled.

Rechelle Duncan drove a second time past the spot where the accident happened, returning home about 9:15 a.m. Police were waiting there to deliver the horrible news.
