One killed, one injured after man driving high causes fatal crash in Buckhannon

BUCKHANNON, W.Va (WDTV) – One man is dead and one woman was seriously injured after a crash in Buckhannon on April 7.

Police say Matthew Whitehead was driving while high on medical marijuana before crashing into a sedan at the intersection of Highway 33 and Kesling Mill Road.

When officers arrived, they say Whitehead had bloodshot eyes and a flushed face. According to the criminal complaint, he told police he had been smoking medical marijuana and had “felt like driving reckless.”

The driver of the sedan was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown with serious injuries.
